Description

Please join us for our first creative conversation of SSoMA’s Queer Imagination and Liberation Lab (QUILL)! We will be introducing work in progress on a hot new zine we are making about how queerness is - and always has been in many of our wisdom traditions - a spiritual, political and ecological affair. How are we accountable to the deep historical and ongoing work of Indigenous communities and community of color communities who have been moving with queer ecological principles and queering relationship? This is part of a bigger project that we’d love you to be part of in ‘mapping queerness as spiritual-political-ecological medicine’ for promoting thriving collective life and treating root causes of colonial separation. Help us make and embody this map! We want to know how queerness shows up through you, its medicines and complexities in your life, how you apply its principles in your practices, families and communities, and what happens when you queer. The session will start with a brief presentation followed by time for reflection and conversation.

Who are we?

We are a collective moving at the intersections of social healing, artistry, queerness, research, and spiritual-political-ecological co-liberation. Mapping Queerness is co-hosted by SSoMA stewards Sonali Sangeeta Balajee and Sarah Amsler, with collaborating artist and musician Katie Sawicki.

The Spiritual-Social Medicinal Apothecary (SSoMA) is a space for spiritual-political and ecological inquiry and a home for artists, healers, wisdom-keepers and scholars who are devoted to initiating and protecting the necessary and devalued medicines for our times. The three main ‘rooms’ of the apothecary are the Center for Sacred Inquiry, the Queer Imagination and Liberation Lab (QUILL) and the Ecological Knowledge Room. QUILL is a new research, artistic and educational space within SSoMA that applies the principles of queerness to realigning our spiritual-political imaginations with ecological wellbeing. QUILL is devoted to embodying expansive queerness for collective health, and living and dying well.

Who is invited?

This creative conversation is for anyone who is engaging with queerness as a way of knowing and being which helps us embody and protect thriving life.
